I am just interested in knowing what other are feeling because some are saying that N.Korea is not a threat to the US when it comes to weapons of mass destruction since we have technology that can quickly detect if something is heading towards us and we are overseas. Is the real reason because the US feels that N.Korea is not "civilized" or responsible enough to have nuclear weapons and only the US can use them when they feel like it?

I just want to know others opinon on this issue because I think it is something we need to be concerned about and I was discussing it with my friends today.

As I understand it, North Korea's leader is kind of a rebel and a dictator. He is kind of a person that won't listen to anyone and negotiate. He does what he wants to do. Also, there is some fear that he will sell nuclear arms to any country or terrorist group that wants to buy from him. North Korea represents
part of the old Communist regime from the days of the Cold War when the US was competing against Russia.

We are at war with North Korea, and have been ever since they invaded South Korea in the early 1950's. We signed a cease-fire, but that is not the same as an armistice or instrument of surrender.

Japan and South Korea are allies and substantial contributors to a healthy world economy. North Korea is a brutal slave state and contributes nothing.

The real reason is we fear a new nuclear arms race in Asia.

Without a doubt, Japan and South Korea have the knowledge base, engineering skills, and resources to produce nukes quickly.

Who else might be on that list?

It is not just the US that is concerned. I'm certain the Japanese are more concerned than we are.

Under the Clinton administration, there were extensive negotiations to arrange for food relief to the N Koreans, in exchange for their abandonment of their nuclear program (they were starving). There continue to be a number of diplomatic initiatives from other countries in that region (Japan, China, Russia etc).

The N Koreans tested a "device", not a "bomb". The N Korean negotiator, and the US negotiator, were very close to an agreement prior to the test. The White House boycotted a dinner which was to complete the agreement. The N Korean negotiator then told his American counterpart, "...we must conclude, that your government is dysfunctional..."

The real reason why the administration is creating such a stink about it, is because, unfortunately, this administration actually wants more wars. Or, to be more precise, the financial / corporate interests that control this administration, desire war in and for itself. If not Iran today, then N Korea tomorrow...or Syria...or ??? Keep in mind, that these interests intend to destroy the US itself. They don't particularly like the US Constitution.

One of the biggest reasons that we are threatened by what they have done is this-N. Korea has sold every piece of military technology that they have ever come up with to other countries. Who's to say that they won't sell these nuclear weapons to terrorist organizations that target the U.S. and our allies? I think that is what we're most worried about. It's what I'm worried about, anyway!
