A controversy arose in 1992 over the Teen Talk Barbie doll, each of which was programmed with four sayings randomly picked from a set of 270 sayings. The controversy was over the saying, “Math class is tough,” which some felt gave a negative message toward girls doing well in math. In an interview with Science, a spokeswoman for
Mattel, the makers of Barbie, said that “There’s a less than 1% chance you’re going to get a doll that says math class is tough.” Is this figure correct? If not, give the correct figure.

The computer chip in the "Teen Talk Barbie" randomly selects four phrases for each doll from a selection of 269 sayings.
I don't know if the 1% figure is correct or not. Sorry, I cannot do the maths for that. But they were the figures.
The "offensive" saying was deleted from the doll in 1992.

My daughter had that doll. That saying would be heard almost everytime she played with it. My daughter, who was 8 at the time, got tired of it as math was not tough for her. She got bored with the doll after 3 months and it ended up in storage. We pulled box from storage, we found out out cats had use that box - and only that one, as a substitue litterbox! The doll was ruined.

Anyway, if you do just basic math, 4/270 is 1.48%.

each and every of the toddler Dolls I Had broken becuase eveytime you wouldhold thier abdomen they could cry. I had alot of barbies. the single I enjoyed the main became the pregnant one the growth boomed with ken. and had a toddler all interior an identical hour =D
