The B.C. designates Before Christ. But what was Johnny Hart's intention when he called his comic strip B.C. ? Was he refering to Broom County, N.Y. or indeed Before Christ?

Before Christ, because everything is in a pre-historic type setting ala The Flintstones.

It's 'Before Christ'; the BC comic strip came out long before Berke Breathed started Bloom County.

Maybe it stands for Big Cheese.
It began in 1958.
