Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act.
What it basically means is that if the government wants to search your home, car, or whatever they can without a warrant and take whatever they want without question because they can say that it's to prevent terroism.

Also is that they can get into all your info. With this the gov't have basically abolished 2 of our Amendments with this act being made.

I really made this question to help America be more concious about the things that been going on in America since 9/11. So for Americans who knows tell people and for those who don't do some research and then think about this Act.

To say what Ben Franklin said in Layman's terms
To give up liberty for security is to eventually giving up both liberty and security.
Can't you all see that it's a ploy for Bush to gain power to do whatever he wants. Why do you think so many officials in gov't resigned and retired. People in Supreme Court Resigned, not just because but for an unknown reason. So America watch out because something is happening that may affect us as Americans.

I hate it! The government is using hysteria to justify doing whatever they want. It's wrong. Fear is a powerful motivator, and they are using and abusing it to the fullest.
As to the "I have nothing to hide" argument, I just don't get it. You're content to let the government poke and prod your life, take away your freedoms and rights for some false semblance of safety? How far can they go before you care?

No, that is an extreme invasion of privacy. I would not like it if the government went through my e-mails, my Instant Message conversations, my medical records, house, whatever just because they felt like it. Without a probable cause they should not have any need to ransack anyone.

typical MO of many govts in history-use the fear of the people to enact repressive laws and restrict people's freedom. It's harder to control people who have access to freedom of speech and thought and movement, etc.Use patriotism as a cover for getting support for it..
"If I don't do anything wrong, why should I be afraid of a search/wiretapping,etc?" the naive person thinks.
Uhh maybe becasue that's what our country was built upon as the foundation? Security and laws are needed but searches etc are invadion of privacy and must have strong evidenceto justify. That's what we had before, that's what we need now-just follow the law and dont try "fishing expeditions" by throwing out a net andhoping to catch one criminal.

I strongly believe that we will never be as we were before 911, I do agree in the patriot act, but feel sry for people who listen to my calls or read emails as mentioned by another person. As long as it's not abused why not? I have nothing to hide

It should be called the Treason Act, because it will be used against ordinary U.S. citizens after rioting and martial law is instituted by foreign troops already on U.S. soil. Then, THESE secret and evil plans will be implemented, along with Bush's new torture laws. Our troops are overseas in order to leave the rest of us defenseless against THIS!...
