David Caruso gets high ratings on CSI Miami because he probably acts almost like his real self. That is David and Horatio are practically one and the same personality. I can only surmise this and that the sunglasses and his way of formalyl addressing his staff - like Mr. Wolf and Mr. Delco - are "add-ons" to attempt to cover up this verisimilitude. Anyway, the scripts are well written and entertaining and his arch-foes like Clava and his "imperfections" of his secret marriage and later in life revelation of son Kyle do much to make the entire series more of a soap opera than a crime scene/detective series. They were smart to put in the sunglasses - amazing such a small prop has such a controlling influence in "saving" the show when H. s one-liners come across as being too corny or the plot turns to the mundane even though the producers and writers try to make us think that H and crew are a "hip" group and that they can triumph on screen without making an episode wind up with the simple minded outlook of Tonto and the Lone Ranger charging out of town on horseback, or Don Johnson from Miami Vice speeding out in his flashy speedboat -- both into the sunset - after all 3 shows detective squad start vanquish the foe and leave the opposition villains justly in the hands of the local jailer. Somehow, Gary Sinise more down to earth star of NY CSI doesn t have to enhance his shows stage performance like Caruso. BTW, I also like his more conservative silver framed sunglasses that he only wears on occasion when he is traveling on foot down 5th Avenue to investigate a murder scene up in the Penthouse of the Carlyle or Plaza.

I watch that show, but only because the scenes of Miami look really good on our new High Definition TV.
David Caruso really doesn't act like a cop of any time...way too full of himself..too smug.
Really annoying.

Oh, I can't stand him! First of all, he's not cute. William Peterson (Gil Grissom) is cute. Even Gary Sinise is cuter than David Caruso. My dog's butt is cuter!
But the hammy way he plays his role with the "dramatic pauses" and the sun glasses and the dopey expressions. Agh! I've started making rude noises during the "dramatic pauses" like "burp" or make a farting sound then say "Horatio blows!"
I suggest you start doing this at home, too. It greatly increases the viewing pleasure of the audience, I assure you, to throw a little comedy in.

He is sooooo annoying. all those dramatic pauses, what the heck is that for? this is not one of those old black and white movies where people are allowed to overact. he drags the whole show down, it would probably be really cool w/o him especially with the HOT latino guy ( can't remember his name). Heratio will NEVER live up to Grissom. Grissom is a real nerd so he knows what he's talking about and that's sexy. Heratio is just a d*ck.

He is definitely cool but I can't watch him every week. Grissom on the other hand is watchable most weeks, although he tends to ping me off too. I love watching Gary Sinise though, I think he is a top actor!

Saw CSI: Miami one time. David Caruso is annoying and unattractive. Why is he still getting shows?

I think Horatio is ok... but my grandma and I totally always joke around about his one liners! Have you ever noticed that at the very beginning, right as it goes to commercial, he drops the bomb of a big time one liner... and usually he puts his sunglasses on as he says it! every week we make fun of it. but overall i enjoy the show with him on it.
ALTHOUGH i thought his romance with Marisol was a little too unrealistic.

OMGosh MEEE! I cant stand him. Ive seen him in interviews and he is much more likable as himself.
but as Horatio? I think he tries to act like dirty harry or something. Its ridiculous the things they make him say.
"She wont be waking up tomorrow". (in his dramatic dirty harry voice) Um you wouldnt be there if she was!!
Someone should tell him he's not Clint Eastwood and he's not on NYPD Blue any more.
