most of the employees have worked for this store for over 1yr and they are being told that as of Nov. 1 they must purchase and wear a red shirt. the cost of this shirt will be up to the employee. the full time employees will need to purchase at least 5 to cover the week. the cost per shirt will be approx. $15.00 to 30.00 depending on the type of shirt.

Depending on the tax laws in your state, you may be able to deduct the cost of the 'required uniform' from your income.

Also, I disagree that full-time employees would have to buy 5 - just buy 2 or 3 and keep some Woolite on hand to wash one out in the sink every other day or so.

I think that is totally acceptable. Most workplaces have dress codes and it is up to you as an employee to abide by them.

If you only have to buy a red shirt then it should be no big deal; you can but those for $10 at Wal-Mart. Many people have it much stricter.

Yes...they can require you to wear a certain type of "uniform" ...this does not necessarily have to be provided by them ....altho ...it would be nice of them to cover some of the cost....by law they are not required to do so.
