Tell me about it sister. I don't leave early to pick up the kids, or get to work from home because the kids are sick. But I get the same raise as everyone else. Plus I have the added benefit of not knowing what to say when everyone asks me why I don't have any children.

Sure you get 'recognition', if you work harder because of the lack of distraction from raising a family. If you don't produce more, then you don't get any special kudos, and why should you?
You pay taxes for *everyone's* benefit, no? Would you prefer that the children raised in this country not get decent schools?
The children of today will be changing your bedpans and telling you that once again you have no visitors at the nursing home you end up in some day...if you stay all grumpy about their existence now, they'll feel it when you're in your dotage and leave the chocolate pudding off your dinnertray...
Compared to some european countries you get off easy being childless...in scandinavia you'd get to pay for 2 years leave for moms and guarantees that returning mothers don't get left behind in the workplace once they come back, so bellyaching about your rights as a childless person in the US is sooo not compelling...
get busy doing something of note instead...

We all, I repeat ALL, pay those same taxes kids or no kids; and no one recieves special recognition for doing so!! So what if you don't want kids, we that have kids do not recieve special treatment at work because we have them, it actually makes it harder for us to work and to keep a job especially when we have to take off because one of them get's sick.

Sounds as though you feel that you are being punished not because you do not want kids, but jealous that you don't. By the way, your taxes have never been of any benefit to my children!! If you really want to feel that you have done a wonderful service for children and feel special, start a fund to help buy groceries to help out single mothers who were left by some dead beat and is struggling to make ends meet! Because, the taxes that you do pay do not neccesarily go to help the children who need it but to illegal immigrants, just plain lazy, or drug addicted parents who do not care to work and would rather have you and the rest of us pay their way.

You shouldn't be punished. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to have kids. There are benefits and sacrifices that come with parenthood and its up to the person to determine if the sacrifices are worth it. You know this but it is better to not want children and be firm about than to cave into society and be stuck with unwanted children.

But if you are a hard worker who doesn't skip work any chance you get then you should receive recognition for being such.

You shouldn't be punished for not wanting to have children. Your attendance should be rewarded when you get your evaluation and yearly raise. As a parent believe me I hear about it when I request off to take care of an event for my children or if I call off if one of them is ill. Just because you don't see the repercussions of our decision to have children doesn't mean there isn't a price to pay. More than often than not we will be passed over for promotions and big raises because we are invested in our children.

Paying taxes to help keep the schools in your area does more than "benefit" the children. It benefits all of us in the future by providing education to the people that will be the leaders of our country when we are old and grey. Better schools mean higher property values and makes our communities better places to live.

Who exactly is punishing you? If you mean how people with kids get more time off and that bosses are more lax with call ins there is a reason for it. Kids take a large chunk out of your life and you cannot always just drop everything to be to work. Think of it this way, someday these kids will be taking care of you. They will be the doctors that care for you, the lawyers that make up your will, etc. Don't you want to make sure these people are raised right so that they know what they are doing when you must rely on them.

Taxes are not punishment. They are the cost of a modern social structure. You are free to seek opportunities outside this country and, if you establish permanent residence there, take a deduction for your first $80,000 of income. Add in a housing allowance and 401(k), and you can get that number up to $120,000.

But if you stay, you pay to play. That's the deal. If you don't like it, merely alter the underlying fundamental structures of society more to your liking. You may want to start with a large team of lobbyists and multi-million dollar contributions to key senators and congressman.

BTW - that company you're so loyal to will fire you in a New York minute once it behooves them.

if other people weren't "punished"(don't think that would be a proper way to say it)for it, then do you think that kids who really want to go to school and who need an education would be there? Or you would be there? or younger siblings? look at it in other peoples perspectives not just yours. And thank you for paying for them, because that helps others advance and they might end up doing something great for us some day and it might be the experience they go thru in school that might lead them that way. There are many brilliant kids out there who's family cannot afford to pay for their school, so we pay taxes and there's where they get school supplies, clothing, items they need. So be thankful they're getting an education and that your able to help them in some way. ;)

You shouldn't be nor should you consider that you are. You went to school at taxpayers expense and now it's your turn to pay for someone else. As for children that is your choice.

Don't worry about things you cannot change life is to short for that. You can not change the policies at work or the ones made by the local governments unless you vote in every election.

So you don't want a better future? That's what children are the future. Instead of feeling punished, you should think of all the people you know, who were all children and without the schools what would become of this country?
