We're looking a new home and the depth of the kitchen cabinets barely fits a normal sized (10") dinner plate. What's normal/standard?

So, the cabinets that are less than 12" are cheap / sub-standard and we should probably not buy the house unless we (me - the mom) want to suffer with small chincy cabinets - that's what I'm trying to tell my husband!!!!

Too costly of a mistake. hmmm. I would say try to learn of new and creative ways to make them work. You can purchase plate organizers. They keep things looking organized with very little effort. And some times makes more room, that's always a bonus. On the other hand If you had a contractor install these cabinets and they wrote you an estimate for 12" cabinets then you have to make that phone call. to your lawyer. gl

Uppers 12ins deep
Base 24ins deep you must have some really big plates. Try putting them in the corner cabinet.
I think the builder skimped.

24 inches
Standard countertop depth is 25 inches (63.5cm) or 30 inches (76cm). Base cabinet dimensions. Standard base cabinet depth is 24 inches (61cm). Deeper cabinets are also available and are useful because refrigerators have been getting deeper – up to 36 inches deep (92cm) so a deeper countertop is appropriate.
