I wonder if the little things bush has been doing lately has really in fact taken away the rights that we, as a people have come to love. Do we still have the same freedoms we had what? say 50 years ago?

Yes, the liberals are trying to take away all of our rights

The "little things" Bush has done may or may not have chipped away at our rights and freedoms, but the BIG things he has done have shredded them and our Constitution... the Constitution I fought for, and that he swore to "protect and defend."

One cannot "Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States" by trampling upon it. By compromising our liberties and freedoms, George W. Bush has handed the Terrorists a victory that even the nuclear might of the Soviet Union could not acheive. He has done more damage to America than Al Queda and the Taliban combined, and far more than Sadam Hussein ever did. More of our soldiers have died because of his lies about Iraq than there were victims on 9/11, and that doesn't count the tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi's who have died to satisfy his motives, and I won't argue here as to what those are.

Most seriously and recently, he has effectively done away with habeas-corpus, your right to be free from imprisonment without good cause. President Bush has said specifically that if you disagree with his policies, particularly his Iraq policy, then you are "giving aid and comfort to the enemy." If you do so (which they would say I am doing with this response, and you may be doing by even asking your question), they can now throw you in prison, even a secret prison, deny you legal counsel, isolate you from the outside world including friends and family, and even torture you in secret. They can harrass you and invade your privacy without a judicial warrant. They admittedly declassify secret government documents purely for political expedience, but can censor what you read or write.

Worse than all that, President Bush has reserved unto himself the right, through "Signing Statements" to disregard any law he wishes to, even the ones he himself signs. So any rights he hasn't yet taken away from the American People, he thinks he can if he so desires.

As long as the Senate and Congress are controlled by wishy-washy Republicans who simply rubber-stamp anything Bush wants to do, our freedoms will continue to be eroded away. This problem is further compounded every time Bush appoints an extreme right-wing Federal Judge who invariably agrees with his positions.

The America we have today is not the same as the America we had 6 years ago, and not just because of 9/11. That is just an excuse Bush has used to seize power, just as Adolph Hitler used the Versailles Treaty to justify his own seizure of power in Germany. Remember, Adolph Hitler was an elected leader, too.

All I can say is, God Save America!

Actually, our rights began to diminish the very first time an attorney questioned the Constitutional rights of a citizen. Bush has had nothing about taking away any of our rights, it's been going on for hundreds of years. I can not think of one right being taken away from me because of President Bush. Remember, all rights have restrictions, and all restrictions have rights. You can not have one without the other.

The most dangerous threat to your rights is apathy. A perfect example is (DANE"S) response in asking, what rights have you had taken away? Well, right off hand, you can't think of any, so everything must be ok. Time to check & see what's on TV. Keep yourself informed, that is your best safeguard. Your Constitution is under attack, and has been since Bush came to power.

Remember all the innocent people after 9/11 who were jailed, held indefinitely without due process and without the right to meet with family, friends or lawyers? Do you believe that this could ever happen to you or me? Watch your back and watch what you say on line.

Rights were taken away due to the demands of the government against terrorism.

The only way they take away our freedoms is when we let them. By how we vote for people to represent us and protect our rights. So for all who don't vote, they let us down.

You are as free as you allow yourself to be. you are as persecuted as much as you want to be. wasn't necessarily the case 50 years ago, but today, all that is happening out there can totaly uneffect you if you dont let it.
