Never! I'm an avid eBayer and believe PayPal to be one of the safest ways to buy online. I REALLY like using it as a money market/savings account paying +5% (no minimum balance!) They even gave me a debit card that pays 1% cash back. They'll even refund your money if you don't receive what you paid for.

They have a way of encoding the CC info so that the number never shows up to the seller. If you haven't signed up for it (it takes a few days to complete the process, because they verify your bank, your credit card, etc.) cruise around their site and read up on it.

Note: always make sure you're on a secure site by looking for the "https:// not just the http:// in the address bar. Nad read their info on "spoof" e-mails!

Most of the people are careful enough and normally don't have to much trouble. Just don't be naive and use good judgement.

If uncertain of details, contact seller. If unsure of it's reliability, check his/her ratings. Those ratings are made by other buyers so normally, they should be quite reliable.

And in the worse case scenario, EBay can give you a level of protection because the transaction is a legal contract and Paypal can protect you against fraud through their system.

I have only ever used my PayPal account to do transactions. I have never had a problem.

However, please be aware that there are many spam e-mails ou there claiming to be from PayPal customer service. If they request your account number, password, or any personal information, they are NOT from PayPal. You can report them to PayPal's fraud team and then they can tell you if it was a "real" email. Never give out that information listed above.
