During self clean the temperature reaches 950 degrees F. The door lock is disabled at 550 degrees so the door will not open and allow fresh oxygen laden air into the oven to prevent a flareup and a blast of hot air into the room. The latch is enabled once it goes below 550 again.

My son's friend showed me how to do it cause I was afraid of it. He said it gets to about 1500 degress F.
