could actually be coming from your neck. middle finger, is the C7 dermatome for the C7 cervical nerve. Will produce pain and/or numbness, tingling, or loss of sensation.
Go see a chiropractor.
What is your medical history? Age, Sex, prior, medications, etc.

spend a lot of time moving that mouse around?
My index finger and sometimes my right hand started getting aches and pains.
thought I needed Granny Clampetts rheumatiz medicine until I realized that I had been on computer for hours and hours.

are you typing or sewing try to think what activity could be causin it, has te weather changed so that you could be experiencing arthritis. is it inflamed? see your regular doctor and take it from there
