The problem is not "What God would prefer", (because all religious leaders think that they speak on behalf of God), but What is the right thing to do: Do homework due the next day, or simply stay up until late worshiping a Deity? Your friend most likely knew about Sunday night meeting, and she had at least half of Saturday and all Sunday Morning and Afternoon to do her homework, yet, she chose not to do her homework when she had the time to do it. Then the next morning she goes to class without the homework. That is being irresponsible. No matter the religion of a person, everyone is responsible for her/his own acts. Religion some times is used as an excuse to cover up the fact that we have been irresponsible with our work. I teach a class in the same city where I live, and I have people of different religious beliefs and atheists in my class. The first thing I teach them is responsibility, and I teach by example. I cannot teach that which I am not willing to practice.
