Try starting a Dream Diary; write down everything you can remember as soon as you remember them. Sometimes dreams are remembered suddenly during the day or even later.
I dreamt of an entire town and surrounding landscape during a number of different dreams. I remembered the dreams so well I actually was able to make a crude map.
Reading before you go to sleep often helps also.
People believe dreams can mean all sorts of things but it's entirely up to you what Your dreams mean.

I read a book once that I can't remember the title of and saw a show that I can't remember much of but they both suggested that you should condition your mind to remember your dreams both before you sleep and after you awaken. I think the idea is that you train your memory with memory tests and also tell yourself that you will remember your dreams - like repeating a mantra maybe - and afterwards when you awaken you should immediately allow yourself a few minutes sitting silently dredging the depths of your memory for what you dreamt - if positive affirmation works then I imagine that this will work too - I don't do any of this as I mostly remember my dreams (the ones I want to anyway).

I too have wondered about my dreams; I've gone to libraries & such to find my answers. The best advice I can give thus far about dreams is that the very moment you wake up, try to remember the most recent thing about your dream. For example: If you dreamt about driving through somewhere, just think "me driving", & your brain should recall the rest. From there, your brain will store it in your memory & you can recall the dream any time you'd like. When I find out more, I'll let others know.

You dream every time you go into REM sleep, this occurs about 3 or 4 times a night. Shifting information around your cognitive cortex is a function of REM sleep and so memory is not fully engaged and there is some evidence that you can influence dream content by creating dream like images in your mind before you go to sleep.

condition your mind before sleeping. relaxation. most people dont actually remember their dreams, and some remember just a little. some are not dreaming. if you are in the middle of your dream try to wake up, if you can do that you must have a pen and paper to your side and list it down. i did it and it works for me. hope it will works for you too.

may i recommend the book "the complete dream book" bye Gillian Holloway.
Yes people have many dreams during the night during the R.E.M. phase. If you want to remember your dreams tell yourself before you go to bed "I will remember my dreams. I will remember my dreams."
Also, if you can. write down your dreams. your mind will be in "dream mode"
Just keep in mind You have to WANT to remember them. Once you get really good at remembering them, you can start manipulating them(lucid dreaming). If you are really truly interested, take a look at that book.
happy dreamin'

I dream constantly, although I rarely remember the content. I've heard that writing your dreams down as soon as you wake up helps, although I've never tried it myself.
