Basic Feng Shui - don't sleep under exposed beams, don't have feet in "coffin position" i.e. facing the door, don't have bed head under a window or against a wall with a toilet behind it. They're the ones from the top of my head but Googling Feng Shui bedroom will bring up some more.

Pull the bed 3-4 inches away from the wall. The magnetic currents in the wall can disturb sleep. Maybe this minor change will help.
Since this has been going on for years, it probably won't be easy to change. does he exercise regularly? Does he abstain from caffeine? Does he eat healthy? Does he relax/ go on vacation/ read a book in a quiet corner/meditate? These all contribute to the exercise of turning the brain off to allow sleep to take over.

It can't hurt. The problem is if you employee ten different experts on feng shui, you'll get a variety of answers.

If your friend has not seen a doctor, he should do so immediately.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

keep your bed away from a window. turn on a fan or something that makes a 'white noise'. make sure you get plenty of excersize.

if that doesn't work. masturbate right before bed. men fall right to sleep after climaxing sexually.
