I had never showered in school and I played basketball through all of high school and college.
In HS practice was our last class of the day, so I showered at home. In college, I waited until I got back to my dorm or hotel room, if it were a road game.
It wasn't until I went to Marine bootcamp that I was forced to strip down & shower in front of another man. At first, you think all eyes are on you, then you realize everyone is feeling the same way and you get use to it.
I did have the same feeling the first time I showered at my gym. It went away pretty quickly. I figured none of the guys at the gym knew me outside of the gym, so who cares. But, it comes back if I have to shower infront of somebody I know outside the gym.
Strange huh?

American society is so weird about nudity. if you travel overseas, you discover that is so true....
i am one of these weirdo Americans when it comes to being nude in front of people.
i think it is really cruel when adolescents are forced to shower publicly. it really can scar people for life. i don't think they do that so much anymore for this reason. it is mostly optional or private.

You should avoid it as much as possible. Sharing a shower leaves your body very vulernable to all sorts of germs and you could get athlete's foot or some other disease. They're also not cleaned often so they have mildew and stuff and they aren't changed/fixed often so the showers and things are usually old. It can be very disgusting.

i find the whole group shower thing scary. where i'm from (in most cases) we only have communal showers in public pool changing rooms. i find it bizarre - i don't think i could shower naked in front of anyone. i'm not a prude but it's nice to have privacy.... maybe i'll have to try it.

I didn't want to shower with the other girls in junior high because of my weight problem at that time; they were all so skinny.

yeah kinda strange for a athlete or a Marine,maybe you weren't happy with your bod,maybe you had some uhhh how can I say this hmm deep within you desires .

I do not like public showers; I think they are very unsanitary.
