Many pyramids were built. If you mean the Great Pyramids of Giza, there were and still are 3. As for other civilizations, there were more. The Mesopotamians has Ziggurats, which were basically just steeper pyramids.

What a lot of people don't know . . . . . in fact I'm the only person on this planet that knows . . . . . and I know because it has been passed down to me from Moses - the Irish builders that were working alongside the Israelites had looked at the plans upside down for the pyramid they were building.

So, there is still one pyramid left to be discovered.
It probably never will be because the base of it is being used as a car park right now just outside Cairo.

Someone did start to dig down but it was just solid rock and thought that the builder of the car park had used a good foundation.

If someone did manage to dig down to the tip at the bottom they will find the whole reason for the pyramid in the first place.
