It depends on your body. I know I went longer with my first baby before needing maternity clothes than I did with this baby. If things are getting tight, look into jeans or pants that are expandable. You can get them at places like Motherhood Maternity. Last time I was there they had an elastic band that you wore over your regular jeans (I think unbuttoned) and you could prolong how long before you had to buy maternity clothes. You can also find great early maternity clothes at the Gap. Even if you don't wear them long, you might be able to wear them for awhile after the baby comes, since you won't lose all the tummy overnight.

I had a baby 7 months ago and am 4 months pregnant now! I think it is different for everyone though. I wore them starting early last time because I was working and I needed professional clothes that could grow with me (like black pants, tan pants) Now that I am a stay at home mom I have been living in sweat pants and I buy a lot of stuff on sale (not maternity clothes) but like size large cargo pants are my favorite! I know of some people who never wear maternity clothes, it all depends on the person. Just make sure that you don't wear too tight of clothes. You should be comfortable for your sake and the babies. My best advice... Bargain shop! You are only pregnant for 9 months. You wont be wearing those clothes that long :)

I started weaing them at about 8 weeks. Do not buy a bunch of maternity pants at this point. I wasted alot of money buying stuff I "thought" would fit me til the end only to find out I got way bigger than I thought I would and needed a xl and not a small at 7 months and had to go buy more. Start out with 1-2 pair of pants and then in a month or so buy more.

I was bloated from day one it did however subside a bit I started to fit more comfortable into maternity clothes around 5 and a half months. but everybody is of course different. just get some comfy pants that are a little bigger than you normally wear now and don't wear tight clothing at all if you have to get some earlier than you want you don't have to go to an expensive mat store go to a salvation army store or any second hand store and some service offered in most communities have clothes they can give to you for free. good luck

You should start wearing maternity pants when the pants you are wearing aren't comfortable anymore...there's no date for that...it is what it is. You just get maternity pants with an elastic panel and you should be able to wear the same size through your whole pregnancy (just because your belly gets big doesn't mean everything has to get big; though your breasts will, but your butt doesn't have to) With some I didn't have to wear maternity pants for months; with some it was just a few weeks (who cares really anyway, right?)

I didn't need Maternity jeans until I was about 5 - 6 months along.
Can you get away with track pants so now? Then buy some mat pants later on?

I'm only 6 weeks along and I JUST fit into my pants. It was the immediate and constanrt bloat.. For now I just wear the long shirts and unbutton my pants. I mean until your 3-4 months you're pretty much out of the woods for a misscarriage. So until then, you may not want to be buying a new wardrobe.
Congradulations and Good Luck!!

I never wore maternity pants. They didn't fit me well or comfortably--even at nine months. The belly bit (elastic) kept falling down to my waist and I constantly had to keep pulling them up. I decided to try the new "ultra low waist" pants. I never wore them before but they really fit nicely. They didn't chafe my belly and didn't hang off my rear either. They fit perfectly and were still "in fashion." Along with that I wore a lot of velor pants and suits. They were always comfortable. I think you need to start shopping for new pants whenever your uncomfortable in your current ones. Try going up a size but I'd hold off on the maternity pants for a while if I were you. I really didn't like them!

My jeans got way too tight at 10 weeks...
..but I could still wear elastic pants until about 20 weeks...
..as for actually maternity pants, I started wearing them at about 14 weeks I believe...
now I am going on 36 weeks and find that my maternity pants no longer fit LOL.

I think some of it may be mental, but I was about 9 weeks when I started wearing maternity pants.
