Turn OFF the computer....!

i have had/have a similar problem, though i don't let it affect my school work to the extent that i am falling behind, i just end up losing sleep in order to do the homework once i am made to turn off the computer.
a good way to make sure tht homework gets done is to do it before you go on the computer. turning off the computer to do HW never happens, so do the HW first.
make it more trouble to turn on the computer, hide it, take it apart, put it somewhere further away from where you like to sit, have it in a room where you can not walk in and out of/ be in when ever you want.
mainly will power. set a time when you have to get off the computer. before you go on the computer think, 'i HAVE to turn it off in 2hours', then stick to it. best way is to just do work before getting on the computer.
the really hard thing is doing work on a computer without getting distracted. if it is something like that, than take away the internet if you don't need it for the work. if you do, than work on a different computer, at a library or at school or somewhere where you don't get full computer privacy; when people can look over your shoulder, checking e-mail is less enticing.
lots of will power!

Make a deal with yourself. Use the computer as a reward for doing some homework. For example, if you do 20 minutes of homework allow yourself 10 minutes on the computer for a break - keep it to 10 minutes. Then go back and study some more.

I don't know your age but when I last attended college they said don't study more that 20 minutes at a time (I was just getting into it, but that's what they say and this may work for you). You may want to touch base with your guidance counselor about what the studies are saying now. If you're in college check with the Study Center.

I don't know what you're doing on the computer but you may want to try studying with others - who are serious about school too. There is power in numbers. Maybe do that a couple times of week.

The trick is breaking the habit...habits can be good and not so good.

I know about getting lost in this internet. I've been on for way too long...practice what you preach, eh? lol

But, Knowledge is Power!!!! Good Luck

ooh that does not sound good

you need to detach yourself from the computer!! whatever some of the games you play on there you just need to quit them.

i know its hard and you dont want to lose all you have done but after a week without them you will have found better stuff and other hobbies to do, and you wont be so drawn to the computer.

also you must get your priorities straight, being held back NOT GOOD. just DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER and sit at your table and do your homework. its ok to use it sometimes but remember, nothing you do on there will matter in a year, all it does is provide a little excitement and wastes your time

Turn off the screen before U leave home in the morning if it is in Ur room. Make a list of what U need 2 do that day N get started on that when U get home or go to a library instead to do Ur homework( let Ur parents or some1 know about it). Avoid looking at it when U walk in U'r home that day at least until know U've finished Ur dues. Good Luck

It all comes down to DESIRE. What is more important: computer time or your school work? Your computer will prevent you from getting ahead in life; homework will take you to the top of the mountain. Don't be foolish! Take control of your emotions.
Control the computer and NOT the other way around.

This is bad. You must get rid of the computer. If you ever really need one go to your local library or borrow the use of one. It is the only way.
Apparently the people who call for a "little" self control have never been addicted to anything. Get rid of the computer.

I had a similar problem with TV at college. There is some evidence that shows that there are addictive properties to TV and computers. I ended up having to give away the TV, and I was amazed at how much free time I had.

try to concentrate as much as possible..but hey, guess what, i'm like that too. i like can't get off the computer..even when i wake up in the morning..that's what i do before taking a shower. anyhow, you should unplug the whole computer so at least you don't want to waste time putting it back again and you wouldn't want to use it anymore. that works for me but if it doesn't for you then that means we're completely different person. but try it anyways, hopefully i helped!

Quit cold-turkey and hide your computer so that it will take a huge effort to get everything plugged in and working again. Then, only use a library computer for homework.

If I was your dad and you had failing grades due to the computer.....your PC would take a looong nap in the closet. Oh by the way.....my sons PC was in the closet for 3 months. It was a great motivator.
