Teletubbies are harmless. They are a television show. They are not real. A 7 month old watching them is harmless. I agree that an older child who is forming language could have a problem, but it never too early to begin to teach a child that their favorite characters on television are just that -- characters on television. Just because the Teletubbies speak baby talk, real people don't. Kids need this lesson as well.
I used to put my kids in their high chairs in front of the tv while I fixed lunch, or mopped the floor, or whatever I had to do that I needed them to be "contained" for a little while. But I always knew what they were watching. Like it or not, it is all parents responsibility to know what their children are watching (no matter what their age is).
Your question shows you care what your child is exposed to. Good for you!

People tend to hear what they want to hear, or what's suggested that they hear. For instance, when those talking teletubbies hit stores years ago, the red teletubbie was rumored to be saying "retard." It was actually "big hug."
As far as controversy goes, Jerry Fallwell claimed that the purple teletubby was promoting a "gay agenda" because...you guessed it, he's purple.
While any sane person laughs off Jerry Fallwell as a nutjob, there's also been speculation that the popularity of teletubbies (being marketed to infants) is a sorry sign that many parents would rather dump their babies in front of the boob tube than bother with them for a half an hour. Infants are extremely susceptible to everything they see and hear, and allowing them to plop in front of the television can result in bad habits and laziness later in life. What's worse is that teletubbies is one of the only children's shows to exist with no educational value whatsoever, so not only is it being marketed toward babies (or their tired parents), but it's offering absoulutely nothing of value. That's something to make a fuss about indeed.

I don't know what it is about them either, but little babies just love them! It is a cute show, but they are creepy to me and my kiddos hated them when they were older,(ages 6 and 8 ). I got one as a Happy Meal toy once at Mc Donalds. It was suppose to hook on to a child's back pack. My own children saw it hooked onto my purse when I picked them up from school ( I thought I'd give it to a baby relative ) and they went crazy! They took it off from my purse and ran into the house and started ripping it's head off. Then they flushed it down the toilet! That song that Elmer Fud sang, " Kill The Rabbit"? My kids were singing " Kill The Teletubby!" My daughter has dreams of headless teletubbies dancing under her bed. I know you probably think my children are disturbed. Actually they are gifted intellectually, but they did make teletubbies that said horrible things a few years ago and you must have gotten one of those. It is also said that one of the teletubbies is gay and carries a purse. I have no idea if this is true because I have since stopped watching . My children are now 12 and 14. If your baby likes it, there is no harm. My son watched it when he was little and he is just fine! He won't admit to watching it now. :P

i know it sounds retarded, but when a child hears someone talk, they pick up that way of speaking, such as if you lived in france for a few year, your child would pick up a french accent, now, if you child grows up with the teletubbies, she may not develop the correct way of speaking, because the teletubies all speak like babies, so your child wont grow or mature as fast, if you had your child watching playhouse disney, or sesame street, she would have a better time learning to speak and probably develop a more expanded vocabulary at a young age.

I think for babies it is fine. But any child over 3 shouldn't watch it as it is a bunch of nonsense.... My daughter is almost 3 and I don't let her watch it anymore. She will learn more from watching Sesame Street.... I don't want to explain to her why a boy has a handbag, it would just confuse her.

Out of respect for Winchester Bailey, since he was so polite in explaining and asking me to change my answer that is what I am doing. It's W.B.'s friend Em who is doing all that craziness. She has been asked to delete her account and that is what I am hoping she is doing. Let's hope no other crazy person gets another obsession! He answered this question below, so you can just click on his picture. I think that it is just some crazy teenage girls with hormones. Hehe. ♥ Tamara.

i really dislike those teletubbies. the only reason children watch them is because they are big and colorful. they inspire no intelligence and they are creepy.
