Sometimes. We do have a vast amount of freedom like nowhere else. But there is always room for improvement. The shame i see at times is historically what i call the ugly american syndrome. I've seen it overseas. Especially when the american thinks he can do no wrong in a foreign country and then royally screws up, either with bad manners (most common) or just by doing something stupid.

Maybe. Some other countries are also proud of their nationality.. Take the Brazilians, they wouldn't give their samba, their beaches and their women for anything else in the world... Take the Europeans, with all their class, their fine eating and their wine, and their contempt for evertything American. Even if you lived in a Baltic country, you'd be very unlucky if you only spoke Russian and not one of the local languages, like Letonian.
The point is: most countries feel lucky about their ethnicity and their unique customs. To think that only America is exceptional shows little knowledge of other cultures and nations.

Yes, because we live in a land of vast natural resources, with a sophisticated economy, and freedom to pursue our ambitions so long as we don't trounce on the freedom of others (as a general rule). For all our problems, we enjoy the greatest diversity and individual tolerances of any county I know. Other countries claim to be more tolerant, but have no where the diversity we Americans have to practice their tolerances. As we battle each other politically to improve this country, we should never forget how good we have it.

We are lucky and blessed to be Americans. Even though we have our troubles here, we are still the best place in the world.
