Overview: Jimson weed is a common name for a plant known botanically as Datura stramonium, which has been used as a medicine and intoxicant for centuries. The plant's main ingredients are the belladonna alkaloids atropine and scopolamine. Since Jimson weed is native to much of the U.S. (from New England to Texas), it's most often used by young people in those areas unfamiliar with its reputation and unprepared for its side effects.

Street Names: Thornapple, stinkweed, locoweed

Jimson is a hallucinogenic weed often called Loco Weed, it is poisonous and was often used in Native American ceremonies. It is legal for Native Americans to use it on their reservations, but not for anyone else. The weed is also used by Hindi sadhus. In both cases the goal is to use the halluciinogenic quality to expand your mind and see visions.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimson_weed
"Datura stramonium, also called Jimson Weed, Loco Weed, Jamestown Weed, Thorn Apple, Angel's Trumpet, and Zombie's Cucumber is a common poisonous weed in the Nightshade Family. It contains tropane alkaloids that are sometimes used as a hallucinogen. The active ingredients are atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine which are classified as deliriants, or anticholinergics.

The Native Americans have used this plant in sacred ceremonies. In some tribes datura was involved in the ceremonies of manhood. The sadhus of Hinduism also used datura as a spiritual tool, smoking it with cannabis in their traditional chillums."

Yes, it's a potent neurotoxin. It is used by idiots who want to get high but are too poor or too cheap to buy weed or hard drugs. It can have hallucinogenic effects, but this is caused by toxicity, unlike other psychoactive drugs. Oh yeah, and it causes nasty headaches... hoo boy...
