yes specific gravity is the weight something has in relation to pure water. The specific gravity of silver is 10.5 which means it weighs 10.5 times the weight of the same volume of water. Gold has a specific gravity of 19.3 which makes it close to twice as heavy as gold and would displace almost half the volume of water the same weight of silver would displace.

Gold is heavier, thus takes up less space for the same weight.
So 10# of gold would displace less water than 10# of silver.
