One way is experimenting with different calm music-- classical, new age, whatever feels best to you. You can also find some songs that fit your more agitated mood (something fast paced), and start listening to that. Then gradually change styles until you work your way into a peaceful, calm song (slow tempo). This way you can bring yourself down by working your way into it. You might think about creating a CD with a mix of music that starts with fast songs and eventually ends with very calm, slow songs. Then you have it on hand for whenever you may need it and won't have to search for a song selection.

As for a couple song choices:
A very interesting composer is Janalea Hoffman. She writes music to specific speeds to slow the heart rate. (The album Deep Daydreams is a good example) Look on her website at: http://www.rhythmicmedicine.com/music.html

George Jamison is another artist that I like as well as some things by Yanni.

Another option is just some classical piano music or harp music, etc.

Listen to some different stuff and see what works best for you!

Music is also effective if used in addition to other relaxation techniques. You may want to search for info on progressive muscle relaxation, autogenic relaxation, etc. Some basic explanations can be found all over the internet. These relaxation techniques will help you greatly in dealing with stress if you take some time each day to do them. It's better to deal with it proactively rather than waiting until lots of stress builds up!!

I relieve stress or pressure by taking time for myself even if it is only 1/2 hr. I meditate or do things like put a lavender pillow on my eyes. Sometimes I listen to relaxing music. Massage can help too. Sometimes if I am working I close my eyes and take a deep breath in and hold it for ten seconds then let it out. If you are stressed because of too many things to do chose what your priorities are and sometimes by decreasing your responsibilities this will also relieve stress. Or talk to a good friend. :) These are a few of the things I do.

Ten Ways to Relax on the Go

1. Take three deep breaths slowly
2. Relax the tongue. Usually the tongue is held tightly against the teeth. Free it up in the mouth so it can just rest there without tension.

3. Take one minute vacations. In your mind visit places where you find peace and stillness. Picture yourself there soaking up the beauty and solitude.

4. Relax your facial muscles. Tell your facial muscles to relax and they will. Try to maintain this relaxed face throughout the day.

5. Move slowly. When you find yourself rushing for no reason, SLOW DOWN.

6. Laugh more. Laughter cuts stress and promotes relaxation.

7. Listen to beautiful music. Mozart and other classics relax the spirit.

8. Watch and enjoy the sunset.

9. Visualize yourself as a balloon being inflated. As you breathe in, the balloon fills with your stress and tension. Then breathe out all the stress and tension leaving yourself limp and relaxed.

10. Enjoy the rhythm and beauty of nature for its lessons are patience and peace.

Let go of what you cannot control. Breath. Meditate. Take a walk. Journal. Talk to a friend. House cleaning or anything easy that will keep you busy. Read a book. Write down all of the things in your life you are grateful for. Go to the gym and workout. Do something fun. Plan to do something fun.

Hope that helps! Life is too short to stress over things :) Also, try www.stresscenter.com!
