I noticed several people mentioned Circus Circus for staying with kids. Circus Circus is good for the children, but it is a horrible dive! There are several nice places that offer things for kids to do, like the South Coast (it is at the south end of the strip, not walking distance to Las Vegas Blvd). Excalibur is good for kids; New York, New York is good. I would visit Circus Circus, but I would not trust the safety of my family there.

I would say Circus Circus is the best one for kids. They have circus acts (free) and an indoor amusement park, as well as arcades and other kid-oriented activities. Near Circus Circus is the Sahara which has a roller coaster, and also nearby is the Stratosphere which has a couple rides at the top.
I've never stayed at Circus Circus, but from what I hear it's relatively inexpensive and it's good.
Other possibilities:
The Orleans - they have arcade, movie theater, and bowling alley all in their hotel. They have an outdoor pool, also.
Excalibur - Medieval theme
New York New York - roller coaster, big arcade, ESPNZone
Excalibur and NY NY are near the M&M museum and Coca-cola museum also.
I would say go for the Circus Circus, and then visit the other places, unless money is an issue, in which case the Orleans will probably cost the least. However, the Orleans is off strip and is better if you have a car, so if Circus Circus isn't much more, stay there.
I'm sure you'll have a good time. Also, take your kids to the Desert - go to Hoover Dam and then to Lake Mead Recreational area, and to Valley of Fire (which is in the Lake Mead Rec. area). It will be enjoyable and relaxing for the WHOLE family, and it will be educational and stimulate everyone's mind (and spirit). They will appreciate it, I promise, and they'll never forget it.
Then the rest of the time you spend in the strip and downtown areas.
Have fun!!!

If you have a car the Orleans is your best bet. My kids, aged 6 and 7, love Kids Tyme, and your older kid can watch a movie, play in the arcade, or bowl while the younger kid is staying in Kids Tyme. The pool is also safe for litle kids. However, you'll need a car to get to the Strip, as the Orleans is about 2 miles west of the Strip. Excalibur is the best choice on the Strip, probably more fun for the 13 year old, but not as much fun for the 5 year old.

Circus Circus is the place for kids...all ages.
Biggest indoor Theme park (Adventuredome).
Free circus acts all day....Huge arcade area.....
As well, contrary to some mis-informed responders, it is "ON" the strip....on Las Vegas Blvd.
I will repeat, as some people should get a map of Las Vegas.....The Circus Circus is on the section of Las Vegas Blvd, commonly known as "The Strip" According to the map, published by AAA, the "Strip" starts at Sahara on the north, and goes south past Mandalay Bay. As well, we have stayed at the Excalibur and at the Circus Circus, and we prefer the latter.....hotel rooms are nicer....it is not a dive, and it is safe as long as you don't venture into dark alleys, which is common sense anywhere.

Circus Circus has the best stuff for kids (Indoor theme park), but the hotel sucks. It really needs a face lift. If you choose not to stay there, there are lots of other nice hotels on the strip and you can always take the kids over to Circus Circus. There is also a place called Game World (next door to World of M&M's on the strip). It's a really big arcade with a rock climbing wall, virtual reality rides, etc.

Well I have not stayed in these but I have been in them, Circus Circus is kid themed...lots for them to do but it is off the strip. New York New York would be good, it has a whole bunch of little eatery shops (including ice cream) in its fake inside city, it also has a games room for kids and a roller coaster that goes from inside to outside around the hotel. It is also right on the strip. As for the rooms I'm not sure what they are like.

Everyone says Circus Circus, but it's gone downhill over the years. Now it seems dirty and seedy. I mostly see punkass teenagers hang out there since they can't gamble. Also, you're far away from all the cool places on the Strip since you're at the very end. Try Excalibur or New York, New York (they have an arcade and a roller coaster).

I would say Circus Circus is good for people with kids, however it is a little older, but still decent. Also Excalibur is good and its close to M&M and Coca-Cola world and also they have a place rite by there called Gameworks, which im sure the kids would enjoy.

The majority of the casinos now cater to "family" packages, because it is a popular a vacation spot. Circus Circus is very family oriented.
As a family, ya just gotta go to Fremont street at night and see the hourly laser display. AWSOME!!!!
