depends on what your carrier is, if its a GSM there a good chance you can can as long as you unlock it to the new carrier, but if the fon is CDMA you cant. so if you have cingular or tmobile and you unlock the fon you can, most likely, as long as the fon is a fon that can use the frequencies that are in the UK.

If it's a GSM phone it will work. As you will be living here, it's best to buy a SIM card in the UK (assuming you want a prepaid deal and not contract). You can pick up SIM cards from stores for between £10 to £20. Or you can pick up a second hand one for almost nothing.

If you want a contract phone (pay monthly), then you may as well get the phone they supply for free when you set up the contract.

The phone will not work in the UK because of radio design. If you were going home to visit and wanted to use your USA svc while visiting I would say take your SIM, rent a phone in UK to use while there (cellhire does this). However, sounds like you get to go home for good (I'mjealous!!), so you will need to start over with a new SIM and new phone. Sorry. Orange UK has many of the same models but that will work on their network, so if you've bonded with yours you will likely find one like it.

If the phone is tri-band you can all you need is a sim chip but if it isnt triband then you will need a new phone.
