Hot water boils quicker and cold water freezes quicker.

Aye, cold water freezes faster. The saying that hot water freezes faster is an old wives tales. (Same as water boils faster with salt in it, it in fact just lowers the boiling point). A simple explanation can be:

If you have a cup of water that is 1C and one that is 60C (A cold a hot one) and you were to place both in a freezer, the 1C one would lose its energy first and therefore, freeze faster than the hotter one.
