We elect leaders to run the government and protect us from foreign and domestic entities that wish to do us harm. If we can't trust them to protect us they don't need to be there. The answer to your question is absolutely NO. The citizens do not need to know everything the government is doing when it comes to national security. We should do everything in our power to allow the government to carry on their duties of intelligence gathering fighting wars. The Patriot Act and the electronic surveillance program has not violated the rights of one single American like the liberals want you to believe. There is not one American that has been dragged out of their house because the government is listening to them talk on their cell phone. The government uses computers and programs that catch overseas calls incoming and outgoing that either originate in or goes to a country that has ties to terrorism and they use computer programs to search for key words or phrases that pertain to terrorism. They do not have enough people in the world to listen to every telephone call every day in the United States. Plus they don't care about your private calls. Full disclosure only undermines our security. I think the New York Times needs to be prosecuted for what they have done.

No I dont think the government should tell us everything, just like the military, they cant give out specifics, why would the government. If the military was to do that, then what good would it be. We would know everything and so would all the other countries. So its a bad idea for the government to give information. Just dont believe everything from the media. They do hype it up alot. If the government wants you to know then they will tell you first hand.

Some people? Most people have opinions based on what the media tells them. Have you ever thought how much fun they must have, manipulating millions of "sheeple" via the TV set? People go to school for that stuff!!! And what an enormous success it has been!

No, people cannot and should not know everything their government is doing. I'm sure there's a lot of shady stuff that goes on that we shouldn't know about. Yes, full disclosure probably WOULD cause a panic!

Thanks for waking up all the free thinkers!! Geez o pete--what are you people afraid of? We should have full disclosure of everything that does not have a direct link to National Security. We should have records of what warrants the Bush Adm. wishes to seek through the FISA laws. ACCOUNTABILITY
I've about had enough of the secret society--haven't you?

national security must be weighed against the public's right to know. Separation of powers ensures that national security won't trample our rights.
