You don't need to do that, the fans are there to cool the board, besides all the components are designed to stand heat, if you keep the case open, soon you'll see an inch of dust and lint inside, otherwise the manufacturer will sell the computer without case.. lori

No. You should rely on proper heat sinks, cooling paste, good fans and proper placement of the case. You should also do routine internal cleaning from time to time. Dusting the heat sinks cleaning the old thermal paste off the processor and putting some fresh paste on it. The case is part of a cooling system. I recommend a device that still operates the fans after the unit shuts down that still keeps the fans operating until it fully cools. When the computer is turned off the heat remains because the fans are off. They make a battery backup for the fans. I forget the name of the device but I have one and it keeps cooling after the computer shuts down. It is true that it seems to run cooler with the case open but what is the point in having a case if you don't use it the right way... closed. I have two large fans on the rear, one on the side, one in the front and two on the power supply plus the one on the processor and a system fan and a video card fan. Lots of fans plus the battery backup.

It's always beneficial to keep your case open to keep it cool, however there are always alternatives to keeping your computer case cool such as adding fans inside the case to improve air flow. As long as you have good air flow, you shouldn't have to leave your computer case open. If you buy those newer mid sized computer towers, they have plenty of places where you can install these fans, which are relatively cheap to buy. Make sure you keep the dust out using those compressed air cans, which you can buy from Wal mart for about 5 dollars. Dust build-up can contain more heat inside of a computer, so regular cleaning is necessary. Good luck.

no because a lot of dust will get into it and that is not a good thing. if you are having cooling problems, get a better fan or increase the fan speed if you can with the fan(s) you already have.

Only if you keep it in the icebox.
The case is designed to keep air flowing in a specific pattern.

No, keeping it closed will allow the fans to do the job they were designed to do. Keep the vents unblocked.
