people use it in letters all the time but i cant figure out wat the p & s stand for!!!

P.S. = "post script"

It's a thought you add after completing a letter. It's pretty silly to use them nowadays, since you can edit your typing and put the thought in the body of the letter before printing it. In the past, they were used so that you didn't have to write a letter all over again if you forgot something.

P.S. = Post Scriptum = Latin for "After the Writing", the main body of a letter or message. The Post Scriptum is an afterthought, an addition.
