actually, there's a nifty feature you can use to block certain website you dont want your kids to surf. It's unfortunate that only Internet Explorer is the only browser that i know to support this.
Open Internet Explorer, click on TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > CONTENT > CONTENT ADVISOR > SETTINGS
From here you can see RATINGS, APPROVED SITES, etc. In the Approved Sites tab, you can enter web URLs that you can either block or allow for your kids to surf.
The General tab also features ratings which can accept third party ratings like safesurf.
IMPORTANT: Don't forget to set your password :)

That depends on how you're set up. You don't say if you're using XP or 98 or if your kids have their own logon. If they have their own logon.... you, as administrator can go into their profile and give them limitations. There are other ways - but that's most effective. There are also 3rd party softwares that you can load into the computer and would allow you to put limits on everyone.
I've often found the best thing is to have the computer in a room where everyone sees it - no secrets - and everyone knows what's going on.
