My niece got braces like 4 months ago and she chews gum everyday and that big Bubblicious kind, too. Is it really bad or do dentists wanna make your life hell. Oh and can they tell if you do or don't?

According to the ortho it is, but the real issue I think is just that some gum sticks to the braces and can bend the metal. I had braces from age ten to age 14, and there were certain brands of gum like Wrigley's that did stick. But I chewed them anyway ;)

I think, if I remember right, that Bubbilicious was safe to chew, but it's been a long time!

I'm not sure that it's bad for your teeth, I thought the main worry was that it would get caught in your braces or something. But you can buy that special non-stick gum which should solve the problem, and make sure you brush your teeth really thoroughly. I had braces and chewed gum..but if your orthadontists says you absolutely musn't do it it's probably best not to. Hope this helped!

The Bubblicious kind of gum is bad. It sticks to your braces and you seriously can't get it off. It happened to me. I think for the most part they can't tell unless you don't brush your teeth good enough to get all the little gum particles off. The sugar-free kind is good though.

She should only chew sugarless gum, unless she wants the annoyance of having to pick out the sugary gum from the brackets. Trust me, I had braces and I learned the hard way!

My orthodontist recommended that I chew sugarless gum because it helped clean in between the braces.
