1. Parents are not putting enough effort into raising their children.
2. There are not many positive role models for children. This might include #1.
3. Obesity. Kids are eating the wrong things, because of #1 and they are not up an active, because of #1.
4. Children are over scheduled. Oh oh #1 again! They don't need to be entertained 24/7. They need to be left alone sometimes to imagine.
5. Go back to #1.
6. The schools are not providing the correct curriculum and programs. American children are falling behind academically. SAT scores are down. Seen any young American doctors lately?

I believe that in fact there are factions within the public school system that work to do exactly that. I don't think that the "Government" per se is doing this. My daughter, a straight A student, was up for being held back in first grade. Apparently she's too much younger than her peers . . . I think this is a subversive attempt for more money. When they get into the higher grades, the classroom has to run at the pace of the slowest learner. Because separating children by "intelligence" would offend some of the others. Furthermore, our children are being given a "young and okay to be stupid" tag. Or worse yet, is the complete indoctrination into a-moral behavior. The most insidious of the lot is the striping of individual thought. Expressing a thought outside of "PC" will bring ridicule and in many cases some form of punishment. These links are must reads:

Simple lack of discipline! In today's world many aspects of discipline (not just spanking) are deemed abusive! Children wield a great deal of power over their parents and that cause what we see today. Do I support a belt whipping etc no but a firm open hand spanking done on a clothed butt makes a strong message! Before Dr, Spock deemed this abusive and over zealous social worker went nuts children behaved! Now a child can threaten his own parents with CPS! How wrong is that? Now abuse does happen and yes it should be dealt with but not at the cost of parenting! I might add that the (cough) great Dr. Spock's own son killed himself! When we let parent control their children rather than reverse we will see decrease in kids committing crimes and dropping out of school etc! IMHO
