OK, here is the deal on how to get into Princeton. There is no other way to do it, and even this way does not guarantee you anything, but merely gives you a good shot. The magic formula is:

Play a sport

4.0 GPA

Do community service

Make at least a 2250 on your SAT's

Try to do something that will distinguish you from every other Princeton applicant, like raising $50,000 dollars for charity.

Spend your summers doing a job, or some sort of community service.

Take as many AP classes as possible. This is soooo important.

Write a really good college essay. Practice writing several of these.

If you go to a prestigious Northeastern highschool like the Andover Academy, then you are pretty much set. If not, do all of the above.

Sadly, this is really the only way you will get in. I had a 4.0 and 2100 SAT's and was turned down by all the Ivy league schools. You need more than the GPA (and a higher SAT score than mine).

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention, start doing all of this from Freshman year.

I don't know how you can think that as an 8th grader you know what college you want to go to! You have to focus on your high school life and make sure that HS goes well. If you are stressed about college in grade 8 how will you ever be able to do your best?

There are 2000 colleges in the USA and there are two hundred that are at the top of the US News ranking scale. Every one of those schools is a good school. You have to think about finding out which one of those is right for YOU, not just about setting up Princeton as a dream school.

I was at Princeton this summer and sat in on an admissions talk. Princeton is extremely competitive. About half of all the students there had HS averages close to 4.0 on an UNWEIGHTED scale, and about half had scored an 800 or more than one 800 on the college boards. Whne you walk into class in Princeton, that is who you are competing against.

Besides being great students, they also had other things that made Princeton choose them instead of the 90+% of the applicants that got turned down. If you got into Princeton every single other student there would have done something really outstanding. What will you do to show them that you belong. A good GPA is not enough.

When you finish high school, you will know whether you belong in Princeton. Your 8th grade marks will not count for anything, but your high school marks will count a lot. So, as you go through high school you will see what you are capable of doing, and you will be able to match up your ability with one of the good schools around the country.

I'm sure you will do well, because you are ambitious and willing to work hard. Just do your best and let things happen. In four years from today you will be headed for a good place that will be right for you.

Good luck.

I am a college student right now and trust me, no college no matter where you go is going to be easy, espically a University. It's only a progress report so that doesnt count on your overall, but make sure to pick those c's up to a's if you want to get into princeston. It's not much to worry about though becuase schools will only look at high school years.

pay lots of attention
keep your grades way up
and make sure that you study alot to get a good score on the SAT's. The test is ALOT harder and it's way more harder to pass with a good score now then say 2 years ago.

You still have some time to go, most kids your age dont even have college on there mind, and alot dont know where they want to go until junior year, so it's good that your thinking about your future. Just make sure to keep those grades high, like you are, and you should do well no matter where you end up.

Just keep in mind, any ivy league school will be harder then possible to get into, those who graduate at the top of there class with a 4.0 sometimes can not get into one. So make sure you have a second and maybe 3rd choice.
