My younger sister, who really isn't terribly young, 11, 12ish, likes to watch scary movies, claiming they don't scare her, but when it's time to go to be she can't sleep. What do you reccomend so that she can enjoy it, but not be terribley scared, keeping in mind she's young and shouldn't watch stuff with a lot of crudety to it.

I'd let her watch movies like, 'House'. (It's an older movie but she'd like it, and it's not too scary...AND it has funny parts). There are movies like 'Something wicked this way comes'. It's got enough suspense, without a lot of gore.

I always liked scary movies and still do. When I was your sister's age I had the same symptoms. Basically if you're concerned about content you should view it first since everyone's opinion of how adult is too adult will differ. But when it comes to scary, opt for movies that make you jump when the scary thing pops out, NOT movies that are 2 hours of straight gore. And remember, there's nothing wrong with a night light!

Watch a scary movie with her. One youve already seen and you think she's mature enough for the content. Then after its over, watch a happy movie. It'll get her mind off of the scary movie. Its what i have to do if i watch a scary movie before bed lol.

Two movies I remember, they were made in the 80's or late 70's, "Silver Bullet" and "The Lady in White". Both were really good; scary and sort of sad also. In "The Lady in White" the violence upon which the plot was based, is more implied than graphic. "Silver Bullet" had a couple graphic violence scenes and a morphing werewolf scene that's pretty good too.

I'd say a decent kid appropriate "scary movie" would be either something they play on Disney channel every night this month (its Disney, so they're harmless!) or maybe something like Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas" or his "Corpse Bride"... those seem to be kinda freakish enough, but not so she should have nightmares over them. But still, I'd reccommend watching any of them with her, out of kindness.

I would suggest no scarey movies for your sister. Period.
Obviously, she doesn't fair well watching them as she is having night mares.
