Depends on how the restraining order is written up.

When I first had one on my ex-husband he was not to come near me or talk to me. Then I went to court and had it as no violent contact so that he could see the children. We were able to talk but if he hurt me or damaged my stuff he would get into trouble. He tried to by a gun while the order was in place and went to jail. I had the order renewed once.

A few months I had to drop the order because the US military took me to court, because he was going to Iraq. I did not want to but I knew they would just keep taking me to court.

If the man is violent and you want to still see him at least protect yourself by having no violent contact to protect yourself.

I'm not trying to sound mean but people like you are the reason people who actually really need restraining orders have to go through so much trouble to get them.

Don't contact him until it is. You can get in trouble too.
