In the past year, my boyfriend and i, have given his mother a Doonie and Burk purse, a laptop and one of those motorolla wireless earset; none of which she has ever used, and some of these, are quite expensive gifts. Any suggestions on something under a $100 that she'll appreciate?

Do you know if she has any hobbies? If so, you may be able to buy something to supplement her hobby. Does she collect anything? Maybe you can add to the collection?

Would it be alright to ask her for a wish list? You could buy something off the wish list for her.

Would she like a day at a spa? Maybe get a nice massage, facial and some fancy pampering?

Would she want to take some cooking classes? Craft classes?

Does she like the theatre? Perhaps 2 tickets to a play coming soon that are very popular?

Does your boyfriend have any siblings? I ask this because maybe the other kids have ideas they can pass on to you. Also, you may want to go "in" on a gift together- travel tickets to a destination she's always wanted to go.???

I hope these ideas help. It's hard to find a gift for some "hard-to-please" people.

Does your boyfriend know what his mother likes? If she is not using any of the gifts you have given her in the past, are they being given from the heart, or from the pocketbook (no pun intended...) You need to take the time to find out the types of things that she would actually use and enjoy not just throw expensive gifts her way. You need to build a relationship with her on your own, especially if you and her son are going to have a future together. You take the time to get to know her a bit better, and gifts will be no problem at all. Good luck.

I am finding it tough to offer a suggestion, since there is no information on what she is like, her age, her life in general. But I have given gifts of hand decorated baskets, filled with a teapot for one with cup, an assortment of teas, decorated sugar cubes, a special silver tea spoon, a napking on which I had embroidered her initials onto, and a tin of cookies that I baked. I also added a handwritten card expressing my happiness at knowing this lady. She loved it and used it, and swore it was her favourite gift, since I had taken the time to personally do this for her. It was not expensive, but was priceless with love.
I am sure you can think of something similar to do for your Mother in Law, perhaps in conjunction with her son. Good luck!

Every Year my family gets a family portrait made. We have them framed and give them as gifts to my mom, his mom, and grandparents. They love them and cherish them. This is a gift we know they will enjoy from now on. We have done this for about 14 years and have never gotten a complaint. This is a gift from the heart and we know that they won't want to exchange it. Mother in laws are hard to buy for but mine loves the picture idea. Good luck.

I would try a gift certificate to a place that she likes to shop at.
Maybe even a movie theater or fandango tickets?
For my mother in law we got her a certificate to that place that she likes to get her hair done. She was able to get her hair done and get a manicure and pedicure. If she goes there you know she will use it.

Gifts need not be expensive. Maybe you guys were getting her the things you like instead of things she likes? What are some things she likes? Does she have pets? Need more info!

How about stuff for the home? A Tupperware set would be nice. Or a tea set from China? Or a set of silverware?

Observe her likes & dislikes. But maybe she value your gifts too much that she cannot bear to use them esp when they R ex stuffs?

Try buying her favourite food / an accessory that has a colour she likes.
