There is a movie called In the Light of the Moon. It is the story of Ed Gein who they say The Texas Chainsaw massacre is based on.
Even better a short documentary called Ed Gein: The Ghoul of Plainfield, was made with Ed Gein being interviewed. Pretty graphic though.
He lived in Wisconsin

opposite to common conception, this movie isn't a real tale. It replaced into filmed from 15 July 1973 - 14 August 1973, at the same time as the outlet narrative claims that the authentic activities befell on 18 August 1973, so it would want to be no longer conceivable for the movie to be in accordance with certainly activities which had no longer handed off on the time of filming. some city legends say that the the "authentic" Texas Chainsaw bloodbath befell close to Poth, (a small city about 50 miles south of San Antonio. it is pretend. The movie is fictional and depending loosely on the life of Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein (as is the classic Psycho (1960)).

the texas chainsaw massacre... if u look on the box it says its based on true events. not a true story... and i think in the credits it said it was loosly based on true events... but if you acctually do ur research. youll acctually find out that its vary vary loosly based on a real american psycho named Ed Gein. n no there was no chainsaw involved. the person who made the first movie came up with the idea wile in a mall and stuck in a croud n saw a chainsaw somewhere n thought that it would b a quick way to get through the croud. dont beleive me? go ahead n do research for your self. and plus i think the original movies has 3 of them...
and its the texas chainsaw massacre because the title sounds cool... there was no real killings in texas involving a chainsaw and a guy named leatherface

You can believe what you wish. If you are of age and live in Wisconsin, you will recall and remember the basis and tragedy of Ed Gein- the butcher that inspired the filmmakers to do this film. It's horrid! His death farm was located not very far from where I live and I will say this to you, don't over-estimate anyone and what they are capable of! You'd never expect it if you saw him- anyway, hate to get into details but because you mentioned you find it hard to believe, I had included a link to the crime library for you about him. He also inspired Silence of the Lambs, which is probably more accurate.

The first one that came out in the 70's is based on a true story. The rest that came out i can't be bothered with. Its been a long time since i saw it. It may be that he was from Texas.

Yes it's true. It was in the Midland, Odessa Texas area. I was in that area for 4 weeks onetime. The people were really freaked out about it.

It is loosely based on a True Story. It was only one guy (not a whole family), and he didn't torture live people. He would dig up old graves, particulary of women and cut off thier parts (including, you knows). It was a bizzarre thing, and they did catch him.
