First, Okie boy is wrong... ESPN belongs to Mickey Mouse, NOT Ted Turner. ESPN and ABC are all part of the Disney corp.

Most football game broadcasts don't broadcast the National Anthem (college or pro). I understand a broadcast not wanting to cover the 'Anthem when a marching band is involved (only to wait for 15 minutes while they clear the field), but soloists should be another matter.

Good question!

They worship the almighty dollar sign and it's more profitable to show commercials.

For what it's worth, you're not missing much. They usually broadcast the singer on the radio, and nine times out of ten, the singer deliberately butchers the song, changing the notes, doing long pauses, repeating small sections, and most annoying, "...the land of the freee-EEEEE!" - all the way up to the top of the octave, which is not how it is written - as if anyone cared that he or she can hit a high C.

(Also for what it's worth, I am very unhappy that they poached Monday Night Football. I can't pick it up with rabbit ears!)

Because the National Anthem doesn't bring in advertising revenue. Unless they did something like "Here's tonight's National Anthem, brought to you by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer" or something like that. Besides, how many times can we hear some melismatic headcase like Mariah Carey or Beyonce butcher the anthem?

Because it is godawful boring.

Most other countries do not play their anthem before a sporting event unless it involves their national team. If you need it to somehow affirm your patriotism, good for you, but I'd love it if they cut it out. And don't get me started about God Bless America in baseball games. I'm not going to a park until they stop that crap.

I guess they think it offends people, or it is to expensive to air that plus the game...just a guess.
