Yeah, you can see their pulse in it and it changes when they strain from crying. Also an indented soft spot can indicate dehydration. Since it went back after she calmed down I'd say it was linked to her crying.

Don't worry. When you baby cries it gets really red in the face (same with grownups....I know i become red faced and blotchy when i have a good cry). This means that the bloodflow to the head has increased. It's not that the soft-spot was deeper, it's that the surrounding skin was more puffy because of the increased blood flow. When she stopped crying the blodflow returns to normal so her head felt normal again.

The soft spot is known as the "fontanel". It's the part where the baby's skull has not completely fused together. This will take some time to happen. When a baby is hungry, crying, making a fuss, sick you might notice differences in it. However if you notice something majorly wrong with it (if it appears swollen and your baby is not acting normally) then consult your pediatrician.

The same thing happened to my son - I phoned the doctor about it and she said that it was probably due to him crying so much. She also said that he could be dehydrated - so try giving your baby a feed the next time it happens.
So yeah my doc said it is perfectly normal, and as long as your baby is feeding properly and isn't too hard to wake up when she's asleep there should be no cause for concern. :)
PS - Doc also said it's normal to see baby's soft spot pulsate up & down (I asked about this too), apparently it's just the blood flow. :)

I found this about the fontanel being sunken:
Signs of mild to moderate dehydration:
Plays less than usual.
Decreased urination (less than 4 wet diapers in 24 hours).
No tears.
Dry skin, mouth and tongue.
Sunken eyes.
Grayish skin.
Sunken soft spot (fontanel) on baby's head.
Call your baby's doctor if any of these symptoms develop or if you have any questions about your baby's health.

Yes once with my oldest, and i freaked out, called the doctor, went to the er, to in fact, hear the same thing your bf said. It is common, because of the stress from screaming.
But boy was i worried. Sounds like your bf knows his stuff.

As long as it does not stay sunken (a sign of dehydration) but mearly moves when hard crying occurs it should be fine. Just happening because it's a soft covering.

Call your doc if it makes you feel better, but my daughter had a small spot on the top of her head that would vibrate when she cried loudly. I just got used to it.

The comfortable spot does not get broken, it rather is worrisome because of the fact there is not any cranium to guard the thoughts the place a comfortable spot is. subsequently, hitting that spot might desire to reason injury to the thoughts.
