MTV Base has recently changed their advertising campaigns to suit the british youths needs.

We used to be bombarded with american artists and maybe one or two uk artists, which is fair, as R&B and hip hop to my knowledge started out in the USA.

Now when i turn on to base, i see these adverts that pop up, representing UK talent, yet im not seeing talent, im seeing steriotypes, negative steriotypes. black youth (and some white) spitting lyrics which ain't saying nothin. Garage MC's with no real lyrical content, just bragging about what they can do, and what the next man can't do.

There's clips of them making conversation with each other as well, and showing signs of being brainwashed by gangsta rap. Seriously, im just thinkin to myself wtf kinda of influence, is this having on other potentially brainwashed hip hop heads.

Im young just turned 24, and still feel under 19. I wanna know if for one, anyone has seen the change in MTV Base, and two, what do you think about it?

I have to say I'm not overly impressed either. Channel U has vast amounts of the same drivel and even the new channel Just Fabulous seems to be headed the same way. And whats with the lack of gospel on Base? Its a major black music channel and now again may be one gospel tune at say 2 or 3 in the morning but always vast acres of coverage for Eminem, 50 cent, The Game, P diddy, etc. Don't get me started on Choice FM. I turned it on Sunday morning and some slack dancehall was blaring out at 9am. Their gospel show has been shoved to late night sunday (i think it runs past midnight or starts then) The impression that music gives to everyone is as long as you have allegedly been in a gang and done time to boot you can be as ugly as sin and prattle about what you're gonna do to your rivals and your ho. Very sad. Black people all over the world have claimed to free themselves from opression yet here in the 21st century gangsta rap, etc. appears to be the lifestyle, etc., that young guys apsire to.

In England, the place i became born and raised, all youths have their own clicks. yet once you're asking in the event that they're "ghetto" or act like the thugs or weirdos interior the U.S., then you extremely are so incorrect. If a black, white, and Asian, are all an identical socioeconomic staus in England, their speech varieties would be precisely an identical. the better the class, the greater advantageous the grammar. Ebonics isn't conventional in England and a good style of blacks over here ask your self why the blacks interior the States decide for to speak like the slaves in Huckleberry Fin.
