IN AN ISOSCELES TRIANGLE THE MEASURE OF THE THIRD ANGLE IS 12 DEGREES MORE THAN FOUR TIMES THE MEASURE OF ONE OF THE EQUAL ANGLES. FIND THE MEASURE OF EACH ANGLE

Let X be the 3rd angle
Let Y be the 1st and 2nd angle

X - 12 = 4Y the relation between the angles
X=4Y + 12

2Y + X = 180 because all angles in triangle = 180

Sub the 2 equations together
2Y+ (4Y+12) = 180
2Y + 4Y + 12 = 180
6Y = 168
Y = 28

Angle 1 = 28 deg
Angle 2 = 28 deg
Angle 3 = 180 -2(28) = 124 deg

The angles of a triangle always sum to 180 degrees.

In an isosceles triangle, two of the angles are equal. Thus, for your triangle you have (x is the measure of the two equal angles):

(4x+12) + x + x = 180

Or:

6x = 180 - 12

which is

6x = 168

Thus:

x = 168/6 = 28 degrees

This is the measure of the two equal angles. The third angle is 12 more than 4 times that, or 124 degrees.

Thus, the angles of the triangle are:

28 degrees
28 degrees
124 degrees

As you can see, 28+28+124 = 180, as expected.

Let the measure of either one of the equal angles be x. Then the third angle is 4x+12°. Since the angles sum to 180º, We have x+x+(4x+12)=180. Now we solve for x:
6x+12=180
6x=168
x=28

So the two equal angles are 28º each, and the third angle is 4(28)+12 or 124º.

You don't remember? Did you ever know?

The angles add up to 180 degrees. Let x = the measue of each of the equal angles. The third angle is then 4x + 12.

You write the equation and solve.

12+4x is one angle. The other two angles are =, so
12+4x+x+x=180
12+6x=180
x=28
28*2=56. The two = angles have a measure of 56 degrees. The 3rd angle is 180-56

so angle a = angle b
angle c = 12 + 4a
also, all three angles add up to 180
so 12 + 4a +a + a = 180
a = 28 degrees
b = 28 degrees
c= 124 degrees

180 degrees in triangle
therefore
2x + 4x +12 = 180
6x = 168
x = 28
