What can I do to fix it. I contacted the GM dealer and they said it was $175 for the part itself. What can I do? My window is down in the door and I can role it up..

if you are looking for a quick fix until you can better afford the part, if it has metal sliders you can raise the window and pass a screw through the slider(use a self tapping screw)just under the windows wheel thats inside the slider. if you have a newer car with cables instead of tracks you are pretty much screwed and will have no choice but to buy the part.

You did not say what model GM and the year so that I can maybe give you a wrecking yard for an alternative price or if you prefer just let the dealer do it and get it over and be done with it.

If you still have the door panel off, and feel you can put it back on, I'm sure you can find a small shop that will fix it for less than $100. It's the window regulator.

You can get the part yourself for a lot less then that and have another mechanic install it. Dealerships have a lot of overhead to cover.
