I just recently received my MSW degree from George Mason University. You can check out our site that should answer your questions. If you have more specific questions, please send me an email.

Just to correct the others, Sociology is NOT Social Work. You have it right :-)

Check with a local university to see what courses are offered. The BSW (bachelor's of social work) is a 4 year undergraduate degree, and after that the MSW (masters) is a graduate degree, and after that is the PhD (doctorate).

For any 4 year degree you have to have the standard general education requirements (math, english, science, etc.) in addition to your core requirements (required for social work program). Browse the college course offerings carefully because some of the general education requirements can also be counted toward your core/degree requirements. Just keep a list and check it off as you go; also consult with your assigned college advisor.

It's great you have narrowed down the areas where you would like to work, now might be a good time to explore volunteerism in those areas to get you started. Volunteerism will be a required part of your degree and it exposes you to hands-on learning that you can't get from a book or a classroom.

Good luck!

If you are interested in a degree in social work, then look for a university that has a bachelor's program in social work. The university that I went to offered Bachelor's & Master's degrees in that dicipline. I'm not quite sure what you mean by behavior studies but you may want to look at a degree in psychology and then specialize from there. Best of luck to you!

The degree you want is in sociology. That will give you the freedom, as you go through the program, to concentrate in the areas of your choice. Good luck!

Go to college and contact your college's Sociology department. They almost ALL have a "social work" degree.
