In a world shrunken by transportation, our health and security are tied to that of our neighbors on the planet.

1. You hear people complain about immigration. Helping other countries to enjoy better standards of living for their citizens helps lessen the incentives to emigrate to the US.

2. Diseases that were almost eradicated from the planet (e.g. polio) are preserved by inadequate health care systems in impoverished countries. Helping eradicate poverty improves health and eliminates the sources of disease.

3. Helping others be productive raises everyone's standard of living, even our own. All boats rise on the same tide.

4. Eliminating economic injustice helps to decrease the violence of desperation and prevent terrorists and other extremists from gaining a footing.

For example, if we give money to some poor country in Africa, and then that country becomes a world power, we can say.... " hey remember when you had nothing and helped us out.... maybe you owe it to us not to bomb us"
