Plant succession in social studies??

Some plants like full sunlight and are the first to grow in an area. These are usually short lived so that the next generations will take their place.

There are entire chapters (heck, books) written on this. Short story: Ex: Grass and weeds with some flowers>shrubs>Sun loving trees (intolerant[they do not like shade])>tolerant (shade loving) trees.
