We have an RV and the awning gets mildewed. We use Superclean which we get in the automotive section at Walmart. Give it a try.

Is it canvas? If it's canvas, you are in luck. If it's plastic you may have a problem. You clean the canvas top the same way a boater does it. With a strong bleach solution and a hard bristle brush. Use plenty of running water when scrubbing to keep your hands from taking much damage. (Even with gloves on, you will get some on the skin. It's a real pain.)
If it's plastic, hope you have a real thick one. All you can do without causing damage is spray from a hose while scrubbing with a very light bristle brush. Anything else will ruin the plastic.

wash it Bleach will clean it but it will discolor it. Try and look for an color safe bleach, and also let it dry if you pack it while the least bit damp the mildew will come back. so look for leaks that may be causing it to get wet while in storage. But a color safe bleach should do the trick.
