Bush has said that he wants democracy in the Mideast, but the vast majority of the people in Turkey, the region, and indeed the world are opposed to his policies. Isn't there a contradiction between saying you're for democracy and advancing policies that relatively few people seem to want?

I'd say definitely yes. Democracy was never meant to be forced on anyone. It's kind of like Christianity that way. If one doesn't choose it freely it's not democracy. Also, it seems Bush thinks there's a limited supply of democracy because while he's trying (and failing) to spread it in the middle east, he's taking it from American citizens.

Well, yes. Bush says he values Democracy but Venzuela is a Democracy-not the type he wants. Lebanon is another one. So, even when a Democracy is formed as in Iraq, the problems are just beginning.

There's a difference between a country being against democracy and the leaders of the country being against it, because having theocratical dictatorships give them their power. Though I think that Turkey IS a democracy.

Bring democracy to a country that does not want it. Then they will democratically elect an anti-US government and we'll be in there again. We will overthrow the hostile government and bring democracy to them one more time.
