All you need is a wireless connection and you can update your PSP to the newest Firmware by going to System Update. Or u can download the firmware from the sony`s website either using your PC or PSP.

Get a game that requires a higher version.
Go to a connection spot like Starbucks.
Go to the game section and choose to download.
Run all the requirements for the upgrade and that's it.
