I have a 2wire modem that doubles as a wireless router. Yes i do have WEP on it and as far as my firewall is concerned my laptop is on the network it lets me log onto my internet and my router shows i am on the home network but i cant see the shared files or print on the shared printer still

ok i dont think most of you are understanding. Nothing is blocking me. I have all my security detecting me on my wi-fi and allowing me on the network. I have the printer working fine on the other Desktop on my LAN but i am trying to wirelessly connect back to the LAN. Some are good ideas but can you please explain somewhat step by step on how to do this?

Yes, technically your lap top should be able to access the shared printer.
Which brand of router are you using? you have to check their website and determine how the shared printing is set up.

You'll have to 'add the laptop to the network'..... Make sure you have everything named.... and make sure you have sharing enabled on your laptop. Also, is your router WEP enabled? In other words, you may need a 'password' for your laptop to join. When you say LAN, are both desktops plugged into the router? or is one wireless?
You may have to reboot all the computers. Try them one at a time. Shut everything down..... start up your laptop first (since you know you can get on the internet.) Then turn on a desktop and see if it picks it up in My Network Places.... If you can SEE your laptop but can't access it, you need to enable sharing....
Also, you didn't mention if the two desktops are XP or 98.... there's difference. What makes XP nice is that it networks a lot easier. 98 will require tweaking. Just do ONE at a time.... networking is never instant..... so be patient.

Yes you can, the wireless network and the wired lan are on the same subnet...or should be, it kind of depends on the wireless router. If it is a low end model such as a linksys, netgear or smc. They will be on the same subnet. If it is a higher end model such as a watchguard, cisco etc the wireless would be on a different interface thus being on a different subnet. You may need firewall rules on the router to allow ports 135, 137 and 139 access for windows networking.

yes you can - make sure the routers wireless is enabled - you can do this from your desktop by putting in the routers install CD or ip address from a web page - and turn on wireless to enable - now set up a home network from you laptop using the same work group as the desktops-next make sure the printer u want to use is shared from the desktop it is plugged in to- now install anew printer on your laptop select network printer click find print printer double click on you network work group then on the computer the printer is connected to and then on the printer,
same for files just right click on the file you want shared and select sharing - follow on screen instructions
best of luck

You still have a lan that is accessible either way! You need to go through your internet connection wizard on your laptop and select connect through lan. Make sure you have the proper network workgroup name (the name of your lan)...sorry bout the late answer, watchin deal or no deal

i think of it would make suited experience. i haven't heard of one it incredibly is 12 months a 365 days yet some businesses do supply MLB extra beneficial Innings and Superfan (of direction it incredibly is purely for the standard season nonetheless). i comprehend Directv provides it, yet i could no longer inform you who else does. it incredibly is worth it incredibly is fee, yet may be high-quality to work out an constantly community :) Kyle: Blackouts are no longer led to via your cable or satellite tv for pc provider.....nicely they are ....however the gang mandates whilst blackouts ensue. For the MLB i've got self assurance they call a blackout if the interest would not sell out interior of seventy two hours earlier the interest starts. The cable and/or satellite tv for pc organization indicators a settlement with the league and in the event that they are advised to do a blackout and dont do it, then they have broken their settlement. it incredibly is not any longer something they are able to alter the two.

Check out how you share the files if you are using Windows XP.. then you might find the cause..
1) Simple file sharing (default)
Check how to do it here: http://www.home-network-help.com/file-sharing.html
2)The other type of file sharing is sharing with user/group permissions.
Check how to do it here: http://www.home-network-help.com/share-file.html
